Clerk-Treasurer

The Town of Shelby has combined the Offices of Clerk and Treasurer into one appointed full-time position. The Shelby Clerk-Treasurer has a variety of duties and responsibilities that include:

  • Posting notice of, attending and recording minutes of town meetings
  • Maintaining official records
  • Conducting Elections
  • Preparation of the tax roll and mil rates
  • Tax Collection

    DOG & CAT LICENSES

    Dog license renewals are due by April 1, 2010.  After that date, a penalty will be applied by La Crosse County. 

    Dog license fee is $20.  If the dog is spayed or neutered, the fee is reduced to $10.

    There is a limit of 2 dogs per household unless a special exception permit to have 3 dogs has been approved by the Town Board.  Applications to keep a 3rd dog have a $5 processing fee and must be approved at a town board meeting.

    Cat license renewals are also due by April 1, 2010.  After that date, citations may be issued.

    Cat license fee is $5.

    Proof of rabies vaccination is required for both dogs and cats.  Proof of spaying or neutering is required to get the reduced fee for dogs

    INSTRUCTIONS FOR FINDING TAX BILLS ON COUNTY WEB SITE

    Go to the La Crosse County web site and make it one of your favorites: www.co.la-crosse.wi.us

    On the Home Page locate "Land Records Information".  Click on it.

    Read the information and click "I accept".

    On the next page click on Real Estate Parcels...the dot will turn red

    Put in the parcel number OR address information OR owner information and click on "Perform Search".

    The name and address will appear at the bottom in blue.  Double click on it.

    File with tabs at the top will appear.  Click on "Taxes".  The current tax year will appear.  Note that you can check previous years by opening & highlighting them in the area provided.
